Axiom

Axiom was a student film I worked on, where I contributed by designing the sets, capturing behind-the-scenes footage, assisting with equipment and props, and appeared as an extra for a scene. I've chosen the best photos from the ones I took on set and showcased them here. The film hasn't been released but once it does I'll be sure to update this.

Behind The Process

The majority of the film was shot on two sets: inside a bunker and a tent. The sets were built using flats and backdrops, secured in place with stage braces, hooks, and weights. To capture Axiom's post-war aesthetic, we used a variety of materials and props, such as hung clothes on washing lines, draped ropes and sheets over walls, and thoughtfully placed a range of resources and equipment throughout the set. It’s essential to ensure that every item and prop is placed with intention and purpose. Why is this important? Each item or prop (or anything on set) contributes to the story and world-building, serving as a form of indirect storytelling. They provide the audience with insights into what a character might have been doing off-screen or details about events that aren’t explicitly shown.

The main actors for the film were current film students whom we approached for the project. The extras were cast through mutuals and students willing to participate. Each cast member had their own outfit and makeup done to reflect the film’s post-war aesthetic.

The production spanned about a week of nonstop filming, and it was an incredible experience to witness and be a part of the inner workings of a film set. I’m excited to take what I’ve learned and apply it to future projects.
